Franken: Dorothy's Journey To The Stars!

Hi all!

A couple of years ago I was browsing the web and I stumbled upon this blog post by The Nailphile on the original Dorothy Who?. This is the first polish I fell in love with and it was the beginning of my love affair with nailpolish and nails. I spent the next few days reading her entire blog and when I was done I followed links to other blogs and did the same there.

You can imagine how happy I was when China Glaze announced they would bring the Wizard of Ooh Ahz Collection back! Finally I would have the chance to own this beauty myself! As soon as it came out I bought Dorothy Who? but when I saw it in person I was dissapointed. This looked nothing like the original and frankly, I think the new version is just plain ugly. It's too light and too silvery and kind of cheap-looking.

Left: Esprit Metallic Blue, Right: China Glaze Dorothy Who?

Another polish I was disappointed in was Metallic Blue by Esprit. It has an indigo base with turquoise and magenta microglitter and looks gorgeous in the bottle but on the nail the glitter won't show up as much as I would like. I bought this to kill the lemming I had for a darker blue glitter polish like Essie's Starry Starry Night but was not satisfied.

So I did the only reasonable thing to do: I frankened them!

I'm calling it Dorothy's Journey To The Stars.

It looks nothing like the original Dorothy Who? and nothing like Essie's Starry Starry Night but I love it! The different colored microglitters from Metallic Blue give it so much depth!

Unfortunately the sun wouldn't come out and play...

The recipe is fairly simple. I had about half a bottle of Dorothy Who? left after using if for other frankens and the Esprit polish was a 5ml mini so I just added that one to Dorothy Who? a couple of drops at a time until I was satisfied with the color which turned out to be when the entire bottle of Esprit was empty.

I think this franken needs a bit of clear polish to make a a tad more jelly and bring the glitter out more, but the bottle is full so that will have to wait until I've worn it a couple of times.

Thanks for looking!

ManGlaze - Franken Jugg's

ManGlaze Franken Juggs

Franken Jugg's™, FRANKEN-STEINS™ by MANGLAZE®

Creating a monster? These big EMPTY juggs have a wide mouth. Naturally, they'd come in pairs but then we thought why not 3 juggs? Our dumbest idea yet is the biggest industry innovation since ...matte nail polish. Sexy monster by Australian artist Tegan Coddington!
3 for $3.33 + S/H (Web exclusive. Not available in stores)

That's what the ManGlaze website says about their juggs. Don't you just love this concept, or their wit? If you don't know what a Franken or Frankening is: Frankening a nail polish means your creating your own custom nail polish mixing other existing colors or pigments. A lot of people clean out old bottles especially for this, but that's such a drag! ManGlaze has a solution for this, their Frankening Juggs! You get these in a set of 3, mixing balls included!

First: the artwork is AMAZING. I don't know any nail polish brand with labels this awesome. And wait, do I see the Iron Maiden font there? Love. The label also allows you to write down the name you've made up for your own custom color and the ingredients you used. So cool!

Second: The bottles have a very wide opening which really comes in handy when you're pouring all kinds of stuff into it. Don't fill 'm up completely, because the mixing needs some room. When you're done simply close the lid and shake! Now this is where things get a little tricky though. Since the opening is very wide the nail polish automatically adheres to the cap, so when you open your jugg make sure you don't have a lot of nail polish dripping down, because it can get messy. The only solution to this would be making a smaller neck, but then the whole mixing process wouldn't be as easy. The brush is a bit stiff, but nothing unmanageable. (and apparently all new bottles already have an improved brush!)

ManGlaze Franken Juggs

I would have attached a picture of the Franken I made, if it didn't fail that miserably. It just wouldn't dry! That leaves me with this tip: if you're Frankening with different types of nail polish, good old toxic nail polish combined with b3f nail polish, it's possible to run into problems like this!

Anyway, if you're ordering ManGlaze polish, make sure to get these too, they just rock so much!

Do you Franken?

Dusty Green Franken

English: This is one of the first frankens I made a while ago. Unfortunately I can't give you the recipe because part of it is a failed franken I made earlier and part Wild&More polishes.

English: I really like the colour but the application was horrible. Wild&More has great colours but not the best quality. It was just a streaky mess but I'll probably wear it again anyway. ;)

English: Now for some other stuff. As you may have noticed I changed my blog name. My name wasn't really very suitable but I couldn't think of anything better at the time. Thess suggested this and I loved it so there you go. ;)

I've also been tagged a couple of times for two different awards.

English: Sannan Salonki, Konadomania, Alizarine Claws. Daily Polish, Prim And Polished and Fashioned in Finland nominated me for the Best Blog Award. To get this award I should accept it, mention who it came from and nominate a couple of other blogs. I really appreciate that you liked my blog enough to nominate me!
Unfortunately every blog I know has been tagged for this award so I can't really nominate any new ones so I nominate everyone who want's to play and didn't get this award yet!

1. I ben verslaafd aan thee.

English: Xibalba's Blog nominated me for the Beautiful Blogger Award. I've actually done this tag before here, but I guess I could tell you seven more random things about me.

1. I am a tea addict. I have at least 40 different kinds of tea in my kitchen cabinet not counting flavoured teas.
2. I prefer winter over summer and Finland, Sweden, or Norway over the Caribbean!
3. All my socks are the same because I hate sorting them. This way I can dump them in the basket and just pull out two random socks and they will always match.
4. I used to run a liquor store and have a large collection of liquors, whiskeys, vodkas and wines but I rarely drink.
5. I love cooking and cook everything from scratch.
6. I have way to many kitchen appliances and utensils for my very small kitchen.
7. Before we got our own dishwasher we sometimes packed up our dirty dishes and went to my in laws to use theirs.

Because I've also done this one before I'm not nominating anyone in specific but everyone that want to play and doesn't have this award yet.

Dankjewel!

English: Thank you! I appreciate the support and I'm very glad you like my blog. But I don't really like tags so after these two I'm going to put a notice in my side bar to please not tag me again. I'll wear these badges with pride though!

Angora Cardi, Or Is It?

English: A while ago I did a swap with IceRozie from MUA. Well, actually it's more of an ongoing exchange of polishes. lol

In one of those first packages she was this little gem as a swap extra. She knew I loved Essie's Angora Cardi and she frankened a holo version for me!

Ik ben er echt zo blij mee! Een holo stoffige paars. Kan het nog beter?

English: I'm so happy with this one! A holo dusty purple. Can it get any better?

En de holo is ook zo goed! Gewoon binnenshuis zichtbaar zonder zon of direct lamplicht!

English: And the holo is so good! Visible indoors without sunlight or direct artificial light!
English: She only needed two coats to be opaque. So did the real Angora Cardi by the way.

I think she told me she didn't even use the real Angora Cardi to make this. Can you believe how close she got?!

English: Now for the title... The people who know IceRozie know she has an amazing memory when it comes to polishes. She can name just about every one of them without cheating and she can also tell you if there are dupes or which polishes come close.
Which is why I thought this was very funny:

She mixed up the names of Orly Cashmere Cardigan and Essie Angora Cardi!
I love it even more now.

English: Thanks for this a-ma-zing franken IceRozie! I love it to death and I'll be wearing her a lot.
