Review: Revlon Quick Dry Top Coat

Revlon Quick Dry Top Coat review

Top coat overload

I know, there is a plethora of quick drying top coats out there, it's hard to choose! I've tried a few: Seche Vite, Out the Door, Poshe, OPI RapiDry, China Glaze Fast Forward, Nubar Diamont, you name it. They all have one thing in common: there's something about them I just don't like. Serious shrinkage, lack of shine and luster, toxic, horrible smell, lousy formula etc etc.

The last couple of months I have been using a top coat that isn't getting that much love yet: the Revlon Quick Dry top coat. It claims to set in 60 seconds to a 'hard lustrous finish' and to protect polish from nicks and chips. And what a great find it is!

Formula

One of the best aspects of this top coat is the formula. It's not thick, rather thin actually, but this allows smooth application, without brush strokes or dragging the colour around. There is NO shrinkage like we get with Seche Vite, but it does have Seche Vite's awesome shininess. The drying time is a fraction slower than Seche's, but the polish still dries within a minute to the touch. Not rock hard in 60 seconds as it claims, but it's still fast enough for me. Revlon Quick Dry top coat doesn't get goopy quickly either.
My polish doesn't chip that much as it is usually, and Revlon is doing a pretty good job to keep it that way!

Cruelty Free & non-toxic

Revlon is cruelty free and non-toxic, which is all good in my book! I've received my initial bottle for review purposes, but as I'm on my 3rd bottle as we speak, consider me hooked!

Revlon Quick Dry Top Coat costs 8.95 EUR or appr. 5.75 USD for 14.7ml/0.5 Fl.Oz. Available at your local drugstore (DA Drogist in The Netherlands) or online at www.revlon.com

Revlon Black with Envy

Morning, in my last post, I said that I used Revlon Black with Envy as my base color. Well, here it is. Now, when this first came out everyone was talking about it since it is supposedly a dupe of Chanels Black Pearl, and I can say...I had no interest in it, none. I never even looked for it on stores. Like I said though, I'm weak, lol. I came across a full display of it in Wal-greens a few weeks ago, and kept on moving. Then something happened, right as I was going to check out, at the last second, I ran back and grabbed one. I don't even know why. Maybe because it's the closest thing I will ever have to a Chanel polish, and maybe the collector in me too Who knows. Anyways, here it is, and I used 2 coats of it.

Do I love it....no, but it's alright. I'm glad I didn't pay the Chanel price for it, and since I don't own Black Pearl, I cannot verify how close they are. Maybe black tips would have made this mani more lovable for me.

Mmmmm....

If it smells good, I want it!! I saw these re-released scented Revlons at Rite Aid, and for the first time, I decided I needed this one. I own a few, but Not So Blueberry was coming home with me. Let me tell you, this smells A M A Z I N G!!! It smells just like when you tear open a Kool-Aid packet, pre-water. It is very sweet, and the great thing is, even with a coat of SV over it, it still smells!!

Revlon Royal Funky French

Here is the mani I told you about the other day. I saw a few swatches of the new Revlon Top Speeds and Royal and Royal was the only one that interested me. So as soon as I saw it, I snatched it up! For this mani I used the Sally Hansen Night Lights, Revlon Royal and my regular black.

This is 2 coats of Royal. Do you see why I HAD to have it!!  Oh and just an FYI, it does dry semi matte/vinyl.
Then I added 1 coat of Night Lights

annnnnd....my black tips :P

Playing with Perplex....

So I finally got Revlon Perplex, Chanel's Pradoxal dupe!! I actually grabbed 2, but I'm saving 1 for a give away I'm going to have, along with some other prettes :) I'll probaby have it after the new year!! It really is such a pretty color, and the hidden shimmer is GORG! Here are a bunch of different manis, all using this!!!

Here she is all by her pretty self :)

Then I used my Bundle Monster plate, BM20 to do this design. I just used Sinful's Black on Black for the image

Here I did Perplex with Nicole's Pitch Black Glimmer over top

Annnnnnnd....of course black tips :)

Then I tried it under Barielle's Elle's Spell, and LOVED IT!!! You can really see the flakies in Elle's Spell now.

But add a coat of the Nicole Pitch Black Glimmer, and you have a very fun mani!!!

Revlon PrisMagics.......

Sorry it took me FOREVER to post these 2 Revlons :(  I have just had so many other manis I wanted to share, but here they are!!  Levitate & Potion. These 2 are from the same collection as these were,
Magical & Crystal Ball. I even contacted Revlon, to get some info on this collection. I searched the internet, and couldn't even find the Collection name, let alone when they were released! The lovely Customer Service Rep got back to my email in a few days. So This collection was called PrisMagics and was released in 2003.

This is Levitate

Revlon Crystal Ball.....

Okay, here is the pink one I was referring to in my previous post. Oh how I love these! I wish I could find out what other colors came out with this collection, or even when they were released.  Anyways, this is 3 coats, and while coughing and taking pictures, I managed to cause a ding in my pointer finger *high fives self* lol. Normally that would drive me crazy, but with all my coughing, I was happy to do this mani with no other major issues.

Revlon Magical......

Now, I got this and Crystal Ball, a pink one from the same collection, off of ebay. I had never heard of them, but when I came across the bottle pics, I was in love. This is Magical, literally, lol, and I love it. I know there are slight brush strokes, but I don't care!! Plus the purple is way more visible IRL. I did layer this over a black, but only because I expected it to be way more sheer than it was. I'm pretty sure I could have done without the base. I will try and post the pink one, this afternoon, or tomorrow morning.

LBD or LBB (Little Black Dress or Little Black Bugs) Revlon Nail Glitters in black.

So after my FAILed Konad last night, I was still feeling creative, and saw this in my nail art drawer. Back when I first began on MUA, a fellow NB'er posted a mani, using these Revlon Nail Glitters, and it looked amazing! So when she said where she got them, eBay, I ran right there, and grabbed a jar.  Now, it's been sitting in my art drawer for a LOOONG time. Well, not any more. I put a layer of Sinful's Black on Black  polish first, and before that could dry, I dipped my nails in the jar, one by one.  Lets just say these glitters are meeeesssyyy! I felt as though my nails appeared to look like a sequined little black dress, but then, because I had tons of little black glitter thingys all over my fingers, it also looked like BUGS! They were a PITA to get off. Anyways here is the effect. I love it, but it's just not very functional. I did try to add a tc after these pics, but it just ruined it. The glitter appeared to smoothed out throughout most of the nail, and some did come off. This too, got removed very quickly : P

Revlon A/W Enamel: Ruby Ribbon

Revlon Ruby Ribbon

To accompany this Dutch rainy fall-esque weather I've got one of Revlon's shades for fall for you. Revlon is releasing two new shades this fall/winter, called Emerald City and Ruby Ribbon. I'm guessing it's a Dorothy theme? Both shades are intense colored mattes with shimmer. Emerald City is a gorgeous emerald green, unfortunately this one won't be available in the Benelux.

Ruby Ribbon

Ruby Ribbon is a gorgeous ruby red matte with shimmer. It dried a lot darker than I would've guessed by looking at the bottle, but it's absolutely pretty. It's a very classic color, nothing too wild, but it reminds me a lot of the elegance from the 1940s. I would definitely top it off with some pin curls if I knew how to make them!

Application

This is my first Revlon ever and I was quite surprised! Especially mattes can be tough to apply, but not this one. It wasn't too thick or thin, it had the right consistency and it went on without any problems. It did took 3 coats for complete opacity. I can't say much about the wear because I only wore it for two days, but I it survived without getting too much tip wear.
Ruby Ribbon dries more to a satin than a truly matte finish. Personally I enjoy those flat mattes a bit more, but I'm loving this one nonetheless. The drying time isn't as fast as some other mattes I have, but at the same time, this is probably what's making application a piece of cake.

Revlon Autumn/Winter Nail Enamel will be available in September, retail price will be 8,95 EUR. Available at Drogisterij.net.

Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of your weekend!
