American Apparel Giveaway!

UPDATE: The contest is open to international readers :)

I've made no secret of my undying love for American Apparel nail polishes. For a fledgling nail polish line, I think they've really hit the mark. I'm a big fan of creme finishes, which comprises all but 2 of their polishes (Echo Park & TopCoat/Basecoat), so naturally each and every one of these beauties has found their way into my collection, some I even have bought multiples of! (Cotton and Hassid, I'm lookin' at you!)

Well, in an exciting twist, the lovely people at American Apparel have offered me the chance to share my love of their polishes with YOU, my dear readers.

The lucky winner will receive a mix of 4 American Apparel polishes!

To be eligible:

1. Send me an email at thedailynailcontest@gmail.com with:

• your contact information (so I have it if you should win)

• whether you want to be included on the American Apparel newsletter email list (you can get discounts, sales, deals, and other information!)

• what you would do with 4 American colors if you had them (and which colors!)

2. Be a follower of The Daily Nail- whether on Twitter : @dailynail or here on the blog with Google Friend Connect - make sure you tell me which you follow with in your email! :)

3. If one of these things is NOT in the email, you will not be eligible to win this prize!

Contest entry deadline is Friday, January 28, 2011, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.

Looking forward to your emails! :)

Gold & Green Funky French

So to take a break from the Water Marbling, I decided to show you a funky french I did last week. Oh and before we get to this mani..............I BROKE A NAIL!!! Grrrr, I slammed it in a car door :( It broke my middle finger nail, down far!!! I'm debating on putting a fake on, or ljust letting it be, and grow out. I don't know, this sucks!! Okay, whew, rant over, now on to the mani. For this I used the brand 10, color #415 for the base, Ulta Urban Jungle for the tips, and Claires 14 Karats for the Konad.

This is 2 coats of the base, 10, #415

Then with the Konad on :)

And the final mani :)

A Patchwork mani with Across the Universe

Remember how I did a few manis using OPI Lincoln Park After Dark Matte??? Well here is another, lol.
I actually did this just for fun, when I had the OPI Deborah Lippmann, and black in my purse for like 2 days. I didn't wear this out, but just tried it to see how it would look. I actually really liked how it turned out, even though the black is kind of hard to see, oh well. I used Deborah Lippmann Across the Universe, Sinful Black on Black and OPI Lincoln Park After Dark Matte.

Color Blocked

I've always been a fan of simple, clean design, whether it be on packaging, in ads, or in architecture. I love interesting combinations of colors, and their applications in everyday life. Today's nail art design is based off of a tile pattern that I saw in an elevator when I was watching TV the other day. In this manicure, I used some french tip guides I received for review from Nailene. Since I rarely (if ever) do a french manicure, in addition to reviewing them (in the next few days) in the regular application, I wanted to see how else I could utilize them. I decided to use an X-acto knife to cut each straight guide in half, creating thin strips of nail stickers. To achieve the manicure you see below, I used those strips to create a grid and then painted in between the lines. As you can see, some polish seeped underneath, but I'm guessing that was since they weren't meant to overlap, and they started lifting at the intersections. In any event, I'm still relatively pleased with out it turned out.

I used American Apparel Cotton as a base, with American Apparel MacArthur Park, American Apparel Trenchcoat, American Apparel Port, China Glaze Flyin' High, American Apparel Raccoon, and Essie Alligator Purse. Topped it all off with 2 coats of Seche Vite top coat.

Disclosure: Some products in this post were provided by the manufacturer for review.

More Water Marbling....

Okay, so I hope you all don't mind another post on Water Marbling. I did 2 more, lol. I'm just having so much fun with these. Thanks a lot Crystal, haha. I promise tomorrows post will be something else.
For this one I used Sinful's Dream On and Pure Ice Risk Taker. I first did a base of Sinful's Black on Black though.

For this one I used a base of Sinful Black on Black again, and OPI DS Original, OPI Lucky Lucky Lavender & Sinful's Black for the marbling.

VALENTINES 2011 AND MORE

1st REAL attempt at Water Marbling

Okay, so I've played around before with 1 nail here and there, but never actually sat down, watched a tutorial video, and tried it, the proper way, lol. I decided to try it, since an awesome follower, Crystal, suggested I do. So thanks Crystal!! I didn't take photos as I went, because I was just trying it, to see if I could even half way do it. Maybe next time I will, but there are TONS of youtube videos out there to show you how. For this I first did a base coat of Sinful's Black on Black, and for the marbling colors I used the same black and China Glaze's Re-Fresh Mint. I just might have to try another one these soon!!

Singapore Poly Nail Art Event !

Hello all !!

I was invited by Min Yee over to Singapore Poly on the 17th-18th Jan to do up a nail art booth in collaboration with their project on Principles of New Media Marketing. It was truly a great experience. The SP business girls were really really nice! Some of them even did free advertising for me to their friends. Hahahaa. I don't know their names, if not I'd credit them here. If any of you SP girls are reading this, tag me at the left hand side or leave a comment at the bottom of this entry! (: Nevertheless, it was a great experience. At the end of the 2 days, I only had 1 word to describe how I felt - SHAGGED !!! Shagged with a smile though. It was a great sense of satisfaction seeing them walk away with happy nails. =DD Anyways, pictures speak louder than words. So... here it is !!

She requested for Mickey Mouse!! But mickey's head abit out of shape. Room for improvement!

This lovely wine colour always seem to complement white flowers so well. Pretty!

Aww.. Sweet! Felt quite apologetic actually. This girl requested for clouds. But I screwed it up. She was nice enough to settle for polka dots. Thank you! (I can't rmb your name. =D)

This seriously reminds me of the game - Othello! I love the contrast. Pastel pink (looks white in the picture) with black polka dots. Love it!

On Min Yee's nails! This is what she requested for. Alternating colours except for the thumb. The thumb is equally split into 1/2 of each colour with white flowers in the center. Something really unique.

I love this shade of pink!! Not too striking & not too light either. Somewhere near the colour of plum. This girl requested for one flower on her index finger. Should have taken a better shot. =/

And yet again! One of my favourite colours. Honestly, this colour looks so lovely by itself, with or without nail art. This girl requested for 1 flower too. Simplicity is beauty. (:

"You're very daring to try blue!" That's what I told this girl who did this design. One of my favourites for the day. I love the blue, and I love how the white polka dots bring out the blue even more. It's a simple design, but the colour combination is wonderful. I'm lovin' it!

This girl was really cute! She volunteered to paint her own nails so that I can paint her friend's nails. So all I did was paint the panda on for her. Hahaha. I asked her whether she wanted the panda to be looking at her or facing out and she said, "1 panda looking at me 1 panda looking at you lor!" Hahahah. I told her that I'd hire her to help me paint nails IF I expand my business. lol. Lovin' the panda-s.

THE colour. Once again. Can be the polish of the day or something. Haha. This girl requested for 2 flower-ed fingers and a dott-ed finger. Cool~

All hail the dinosaur eggs~ Another personal favourite! It's a really different style from the usual black base with pastel dots or white base with striking dots. This girl said it looks like dinosaur eggs and I totally agree. Love this design!!

DISCO! Super funky. Black base with pastel coloured dots. Love how the colours stand out! This pic is not taken by me though. Not sure why some dots seem blurred. Lol.

Another Othello design. The white dots are not really visible in this picture. It looks much nicer in real with the white and black dots!

Hello Minnie! This is sucha cute design. It reminds me of Minnie Mouse and reminds me of Mario too. Nostalgiaaaaa~

This girl requested for pastel purple base & 2 rows of white dots. Sucha sweet design~

Another personal favourite! I love how this girl was daring enough to try 2 totally different designs on all her fingers. And she carried it off really well! I'm lovin' it!

This girl requested for pastel mint green with 2 paw print designs on navy blue. Looks black but isn't. Only managed to do 1 paw on each finger. Meowwwww~

Didn't manage to take a good enough picture for this girl cause I was really in a rush and mummy took the picture for my instead. Many others were waiting for their turn. She went for a simple flower design on both thumbs. Sweet!

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

To me, the SP event was a great success. It was definitely much better than I expected it to be. SP business girls if you're doing this, please feedback how you felt the manicure session was and how you felt I was! You can do so through the comment box after this entry or through the tagboard on the left hand side. It'd be a big encouragement to me. With regards to your OPI orders, I've sent in the orders already and I hope it'll arrive soon! Will contact you all again once it arrives. Thanks so much for the enjoyable 2 days at SP !!
